Hello Everyone! A bit of time has passed since the last blog. There have been a few ups and downs yet everything has been moving forward albeit slower than anticipated.  Most of the hiccups have been technical and behind the scenes.  I will tell you this: Issue one of Equinox is on stand-by until the Copyright and Trademark steps are complete. There is a really cool ‘squad-patch’ logo that will be plastered everywhere when it’s safe and sound to do so.  And there are a few issues of The Stone Legacy: 1985 in post-production.  Also, I am going to be officially re-opening the new Vault that will include new stories and artwork.  I want to reassure you all that we haven’t gone anywhere.  The best is still yet to come.

Thank You, everyone and have a great week!

March 23,2016

It is a short week here for us at the office, due to the holiday at the end of the week but that does not mean we are not working hard!

Gavin is continuing work on both ‘Equinox’ and the ashcan for the new series. We often get asked how long it takes to make a comic book and the answers is: it varies depending on the comic, the storyline and the length of the issue. Writing is process and not something that can be accomplished in a few days, to get a story right or to feel like its being told in a constructive way, takes time. Some of our issues only take 5 months where others like this new issue are currently sitting 8 months of writing. Other factors go into making a comic book as well, such as the art work, the writer and artist have to communicate in order for the story to come to life, drawing is another element that takes time and does not happen in one day. Then there can be re-writes which could mean more artwork this can take awhile as well, then once everything is completed, its time to print.

We know that you, the fans, want to read the next issues right away and we want you to be able to do that as well! But in order to make sure that the next issues are just as good, if not better, then the last issue Gavin, our office and artists take the time to make sure that the story, the art and the printing are done correctly so the issue is enjoyable and the that you, the fans, are happy!

We appreciate your patience and can not wait for you to read the new storyline soon!

March 16,2016

What a busy last week and a half we here have had! We have been busy working out the convention schedule for the rest of the year! Morgan will be updating the site soon listing which conventions we will be also you can plan to come see us soon! Morgan is also working on a signing event up at 4 Color Fantasies, which is our home comic book store! More details to come on this soon!

‘Equinox’ release date has been moved back to 2016. We regret this but some unforeseen issues have arisen that has taken time away from the project. Gavin is continuing his work on this new series and we will continue to give you updates on the progress being made.

Website updates will be taking place over the next two to three weeks, we are going to slowly roll out some updates to make sure they work properly one at a time. Too much change at once on sites sometimes can crash them and we do not want that!

“The Vault” updates will be posted soon as well, Gavin is working on the last few pieces and is very excited about the additions, which add to the first story arch ( issues 1-6) and also will help with “Equinox”.

As we get closer to convention time, we will be having several social media contests! Make sure you are following up on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter so you do not miss out on this great contests and prizes!

This week has been a slower week for us as both Morgan and Gavin are finishing their degrees and are preparing to graduate. Some progress has been made on ‘Equinox’ though. Gavin was able to write a few more pages. Next week, he will get back into the swing of things and be able to write more.

Have a great week and make sure to come back on Thursday for our latest comic book review.

April 24,2015

Another week has come and gone! With all the excitement of last weekend’s Star Wars Celebration and planning events for the upcoming Free Comic Book Day!

We have been hard at work on ‘Equiniox’. We are making great progress on this new comic book and the first issue! Gavin has spent the entire week write, redoing the layout and the storyboard! The event will be taking place May 1st! April 7,2015

Its a new month, with new projects!! We are all back from our various vacations and ready to get going on some awesome new projects for you!

This is not the official date and could change depending on the time it takes to complete various factors of the comic. We will keep you updated though on the process of this!

We hope you all have a wonderful week! Check back on Thursday for the new review and we will have another blog update for you next Tuesday!

March 24,2015

Last week was crazy busy here for us! But that is the way we like it! It means that things are getting crossed off list, we are expanding and having a blast!

A good portion of ‘Equinox’ was completed last week and Gavin is working on the finishing touches of those pages this week.

For the comic book convention research we compiled a very long list and are now working our way through to figure out which ones would be the best for The Stone Legacy to branch out too. Again, if you have any reviews and or suggestions for conventions, please let us know! We want to hear from you! After all, we would not still be doing this if it were not for our amazing fans!

This week, we will continue to narrow down the list of conventions. Plus, Morgan and Gavin are working on some great new comic book reviews! Make sure to check back on Thursday this week to see which one got reviewed this week!

March 17,2015

Another week is upon us here at The Stone Legacy. This week we are working on researching new comic book conventions to travel to. We have been looking locally as well as nationally. If you have any that you would like to recommend please do! We will be traveling to the Las vegas on at the end of June, to see how that show is! We are excited about expanding the shows that we go to as well as getting into a few new comic shops!

Gavin is continuing his writing of “Equinox” and has gotten a few more pages written. Follow his progress on his twitter page.

Both Morgan and Gavin, have been writing up a storm lately on comic book reviews. We post them weekly here on the home page. If you are looking for a new comic to read or if you are not quiet sure if you will like a comic, check out our reviews to see what we have to say about them!

Happy St. Patty’s Day!!

March 10,2015

A new week which means new projects, er well , continuation of projects! Now that the convention is over with and with such great response to the completion of the first story arch and much interest in the new spin off series, Gavin is back to work on ‘Equinox’!  He is hard at work writing the dialogue and getting some more art work in from the artist.

We are still working on a release date for this new series as we know you all are anxious to read it! What we can promise is it will be this year. We will continue to update you on the progress of this project as we move forward.

‘The Vault’ will be getting some updates!  We have several new items that we are putting the final touches on and hope to have that up with in the next few weeks. Don’t know what ‘The Vault’ is? It is the behind the scenes, extra pages to The Stone Legacy. We post various art work, extra pages to comics, and other various items related to the comic. To be able to access this part of the website, you need a QR code that many have picked up at the various conventions that we are at. Don’t have on but want a ‘key’? We will have some at the next convention we are at, make sure to come see us to get yours!  Once they are up we will let you know!

Have a great week fans!

March 5, 2015

What a weekend! The Long Beach Comic Expo was last weekend! We are still unpacking from the comic show this past weekend. Here is a brief recap from the expo:

Saturday when we arrived, they had just started letting advanced ticket holders come in to the new exhibit area. For the past several years, we have been on the front side of the convention center but this year they placed us in the largest hall that they had! We quickly found our table and set up, we were right in the middle of the convention which was nice! Lot of foot traffic through there. It was not long before we started seeing some of our friends and making friends with our booth neighbors. A few hours into the convention, they had everyone go silent and do a tribute with the Vulcan sign to Leonard Nimoy, everyone was touched by this and gladly participated in.

Sunday, was a lighter day. We did not have to do much set up wise as we were able to leave a few things over night. Again friends and fans plus some new ones started coming up right away when the doors opened. About half way through Sunday, we started taking turns walking the floor and seeing all the other artists and exhibitors that were there. We ran into more friends and picked up a few comics and pieces of art our selves!

Overall, we had a great weekend and look forward to the next comic expo! The Long Beach comic conventions are our home conventions as it is always great to be able to return year after year! See you at the next one!

February 25,2015

It is finally here! The Long Beach Comic Expo is this weekend! So what will we be bring to the convention with us?

All of the issues will be at the convention with issue six being available for the first time for the people at this convention. We are also bring with us some limited edition artwork from the comic. We have made them into poster size pieces, great thing to add to any room! Gavin will of course be on hand to talk with fans, autograph issues and take pictures.

We can not wait to see all of our friends that come out for this convention! This convention is one of our favorites to go to as the atmosphere here is so electric. Everyone has a great time, there is a lot to see and do. Because this convention is not as big as the San Diego Comic Con, it allows people to still be able to take their time and not be rushed to be able to see everything. It is also a great that fans can talk with their favorite artists, authors and cosplayers and not have to worry about holding up a long line.

We are very excited and can not wait for this weekend! Of course afterwards, we will be uploading all the pictures from this weekend as well as doing a recap of the convention.

Make sure to be following us on instagram and twitter this weekend as we will be live posting and tweeting though out the convention! See you there!

February 17,2015

We are getting very excited as the Long Beach Comic Expo is next weekend! We have been talking about it for over a month now and it is finally almost here! Next week we will have a post with everything you need to know if you are coming out to the convention! The post will almost cover which issues we will have on hand. Of course Gavin will be there to meet, sign and answer questions from the fans. But more on that next week!

This week, we are working on Equinox! Gavin is still working on the dialogue and Raquel is working on some color correction on a few frames that have come back from the artist as well as working on some new prints for the convention! If you have ever wanted a piece of art from one of the issues, we might just have it for sale at the up coming convention. Details on that will be posted next week. Morgan is working on finalizing which press is coming to do an interview with us at the convention. We all have our projects for the week!

February 10,2015

Its a new week with new and continuing projects! We are still working on getting everything ready for The Long Beach Comic Expo that is taking place at the end of this month! Gavin is still working on Equinox and the dialogue for the first issue. New this week though we have started working on need content for the website and our social media pages! We should have the updates up within the next two weeks!

There will be a new comic book review this week! Gavin is working away on finishing this weeks review! Make sure to check back here on Thursday for his latest review!

As we get ready to head to the convention this month, we will be on the look out for new indie comic books to do reviews on! If you know of any that you would like us to do a review on let us know in either a comment on this page or on our Facebook page!

February 6,2015

What a busy week we have had! Between work for the new series, getting ready for the up coming comic book convention and trying to get a review done, this week has just flown by! We apologize as we did not get a new review up this week, Gavin is working on one for next week and it will be up on Thursday! Gavin has continued his work on the new series in writing more dialogue and making changes. He has also been reviewing several art sketches that have come in from our artists.

For the rest of us, we have been hard at work getting everything ready for The Long Beach Comic Expo, making upgrades to our booth display, making sure we have enough copies of issues in stock and other various tasks. We will have more information on the convention within the next week!

As always make sure to check back often as we are always updating our content and information on the site!

February 3, 2015

Only a few more weeks until The Long Beach Comic Expo! We are looking forward to the show as well as getting to see you the fans! If you have not gotten your copy of issue 6, we will have some copies there. You can as always purchase issue 6 or any of our comics from this website.  As soon as we have all the information for the table location, hours of the convention and panel listings, we will pass that information on to you.

Gavin has been hard at work on ‘Equinox”, the storyline and dialogue are coming together nicely! This comic series will be different from “The Stone Legacy” but still fit into the over all universe. Gavin is keeping the little art work so far under wraps. The first issue of this new series still have a projected release date for later this year. We are working on the specific release date and will pass that on when it has been decided on.

January 27,2015

We are almost in to February! Can you believe it? We are working on getting ready for The Long Beach Comic Con which is only a few short weeks away! If you have not gotten your tickets yet, check out their website and get your tickets soon! They have great deals right now!

We are also working on getting The Stone Legacy on to the comic book site, “Comixology” which is a site where comic book writers can upload their works and you can buy them, download and instantly read the latest issue! You can of course purchase the physical copies from us here on our site via our store page or at any of the conventions that we attend!

Gavin is putting the finishing touches for this weeks review and it will be up on Thursday! Make sure to come back and see what comic book he has reviewed this week!

January 20,2015

The count down is on for The Long Beach Comic Expo! We have been officially added to their Artist Alley. Once we receive our table number we will pass along the information to you as well as do a write up on all you need to know about the convention and some things to plan on! We are very excited about this convention as every year it keeps getting bigger, the fans better and the cosplay is outstanding. If you have not gotten your copy of issue 6, we will have some on hand at this convention, plus you can get it signed by Gavin!

Equinox update: Gavin is making some progress on the first issue, he has several pages of dialogue completed thus far. He is also working on several new reviews from different indie comics. Look out for those reviews over the coming weeks!

Do you have a comic that you think we should do a review on? Let us know in a comment on this page or on any of our social media sites! You can find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram! We look forward to your suggestions!

January 13,2015

It’s another week here at The Stone Legacy office and we are all working away on up coming events. Gavin, of course, is excluded from these activities in order for him to focus on Equinox and all that is going on with that right now. He is now putting the finishing touches on the storyline ( he went back and made some changes) and is starting to write the dialogue for the first issue.  We are looking at a release date later in the year for the first one.

The rest of us, we are working on getting everything ready for our first comic book convention of the year! Long Beach Comic Expo is only a few weeks away and we are counting down! More specific details of what we will be having at our booth will be released soon! Of course issue 6 will be there along with the rest of the other issues of The Stone Legacy. We are working on having some special comic con exclusive items available for you the fans! Stay tuned for more on this!

January 9,2015

Happy New Year Readers! We hope you had a great Holiday season and are all ready for this year! We want to apologize for the white out as we are calling it here at the office. Our website earlier this week, went offline. It took sometime to locate the problem but once we knew the issue it was quickly fixed. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused you.

The first comic book review of the New Year is up! Gavin took a look at the comic ‘The Thirty Six‘. Check it out either on the home page or under the review tab. We hope you enjoy it!

We are hard at work getting several things lined up for this year including the release of the first comic for the Equinox series. Gavin has been working hard to finalize the first story line for this issue and is getting ready to select the artist for this new series. He has been debating long and hard on which artist to choose as he has a specific idea in mind on how this universe to look. Gavin is a perfectionist and he wants to make sure that the artist that is selected can bring this story arch to life in the right manner. Once the artist has been selected we will make an announcement!

Also we have been working to finalize our conventions list as well as our signing days for this year. More to come on this as the details are worked out. There is a lot going on and this year is looking to be promising ! We will be at the Long Beach Comic Expo next month, we hope to see you there!

December 22,2014

What a year it has been! This will be the last blog post for 2014! We were looking back on the year and all the great moments that took place! Some of our favorites where at the comic book conventions that we traveled to this year. It is also great to meet the fans, see some of our friends at the conventions and of course work and release new content for The Stone Legacy! We want to thank everyone for their support this year and for coming out to the conventions!

We are wrapping up all of our projects and will have updates on the website, conventions for 2015 and signing events in 2015 in January!

From all of us here at The Stone Legacy we wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season!

See you in 2015!

December 16,2014

Well it has been another busy week here for us. We are trying to wrap up this year’s projects and get everything ready.  We are looking forward to the upcoming conventions! The first one for us next year will be The Long Beach Comic Expo. Please note the change in time for this convention. Last year it was held later in the year but it has been moved up a few months for the 2015 season.  We will be there along with some new material!

We are also working on setting up several signing events as well as meet and greets with Gavin. Keep an eye out for this information. We should have all the details by the end of this month!

Also, it is not too late to order from our online store.  Any items ordered by tomorrow will make it to you by Christmas! ( Weather allowing, we cannot after all control that!)

December 9,2014

Another week and another project! We are working on several things to which we hope will be finished by 2015! The comments page is still only showing on the mobile version of the website, we are working hard to get this fixed. Gavin is still deciding on which artist to go with for Equinox ( we will let you know once he has decided on one :] ). Also, Gavin has started writing for the Equinox series and has added even more to the story board, which we all here at the office  thought was not possible but he did it!

So everything is moving along as this year is coming to an end. If you have a review topic or question that you would like us to cover, reach out to us on one of our social media outlets and we might just cover it!

December 5,2014

Over the last few days, we have been working to resolve the comments issue. Currently, comments will not show up on the main website. We have been able to get them to appear however on our mobile site! ( It’s a start! :] ) We are continuing to work on getting the comments to once again appear here on the main site. If you would like to leave us feedback on any of our reviews, posts, ect. you can do so on the site still but you can only view them on the mobile site. You can also leave feedback on any of our social media outlets. We will keep you up dated on this issue.

We are still deciding on the new artist for the Equinox series. Gavin explains that with the spin off series he wants the same feel like The Stone Legacy but something different too, so that it still feels connected to the universe of The Stone Legacy but this new series is its own thing. Think how all the Marvel characters have their own series but there is an overall main universe that they fall into.

Have a great weekend readers!

December 2,2014

We hope you had a great Thanksgiving last week! We are officially in the holiday season! Our online store has been updated and is ready to go for those wishing to purchase individual issues or the complete set!

We were able to have our new section of the website open last friday instead of this past monday! We were all working hard to get that up and running! Check out our first review on the Comic Book Conventions! Equinox news! We have narrowed down our choices for our new artist for the series. We are deciding between two right now and will hopefully have picked one of the artists within the next week or two! Exciting times here at The Stone Legacy!

November 26,2014

Everyone here has been busy working the various project we have going. We are pleased to announce that the review section is finally up and the first review should be up by Monday of next week!

Gavin has continued to work on the new spin off series and to get the art to match his visions of the characters. We must say our artist is pretty darn good! He really can make the characters come to life!

We will be stopping work at noon today so everyone can head home to spend the holiday with their families! We would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! Check back with us for a new review and blog post!

November 24,2014

What a busy last few days it has been! Progress is being made on the updates to the website, we are working hard to get the new sections up and running!

Gavin continues to work on the spin off series and our artist has started sketching out some of the new characters for the series. We still do not have a release date for the new issues as Gavin wants to make sure that he set up the universe correctly. Check back soon for an update on this soon!

We also have been hard at work setting up signing events  for 2015! Details are pending on this, we should have more information soon.

As you can see, there is a lot of things in the works, we are hoping to have everything finalized with in the next couple of weeks :]

November 18,2014

We are getting a good rush on orders from our online store! We hope those of you who are using the store find the process simple. We would love to hear from you if that is not the case!

We are still working on getting the new section of the website it, you might notice the new tab but no content in it yet. We are working on an issue with the layout of the page. We hope to have this issue resolved soon and a review up shortly!

This week, production continues for the new spin off series from the creator. Our storyboard is still completely covered! We are all wondering how he is able to make sense of everything when it is like that , but he does! :] We are still working on getting a release date for these new series, once they have been decided, we will let you know!

November 14, 2014

Happy Friday! Production is continuing on the new series , the creator has been hard at work building these new series (Our white boards are completely full of his ideas!). The creator is very excited about these new series as he is able to explore more of The Stone Legacy universe and work on different characters! ( Of course the Guardian is his favorite still, don’t worry :] ) .

We are also working on getting a new section of the website up and running, a review section! We get a lot of questions about different comic books and conventions so we thought we would make a section to answer those questions as well as talk about what has been going on in the comic book industry. We are hoping that this new section of the site will be up by the end of this month! Check back for more details soon!

November 11,2014

Announcements! Today is a big day as there are several announcements made this morning by the creator! Production has started for Equinox and The Stone Legacy Chronicles! These new series will be released in 2015, we do not have an expected date as of yet but will have one shortly!

This week here at The Stone Legacy we have been working on getting Equinox going and getting our line up for 2015 set-up, so far we have two comic book conventions in early 2015 with a special signing event ( details to come). We are looking in to adding 2 to 3 more comic book conventions and we will list those as soon as we decide which conventions.

We would also like to thank those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces! Thank you for all that you do for our country!

Comikaze 2014 Recap

This past weekend we were out at Comikaze in Downtown Los Angeles, CA. This is the second time we have gone to this convention and it was a special one for us as we released issue #6. (This issue will be online shortly for purchase). We enjoyed seeing everyone who came out, meeting new fans as well as visiting with our con friends! Here is the full recap!

This convention is three days were standard conventions are two day ( the extra day was just fine with us! More fun!) They extended the hours for the convention making a partial day on Friday and making Saturday and Sunday open and close later. We gained a lot of exposure from these new hours as well as had good placing on the show floor. We were placed close to many of our convention friends, which always make the conventions better! We also meet several new vendors as well as artists and we look forward to seeing you at upcoming conventions! We want to send a BIG thank you to everyone who came by to see us and to pick up your copy of issue 6! We also want to thank the new fans as well! (Lucky you, you can now binge read issues 1-6!) We hope you enjoy the story! There was also great panel discussions at this convention which covered a variety of topics, each of our team members went to several throughout the three days and found them very informative.

Some positives of the event:

  • We had great placing and the convention has grown which has brought in a lot more people for the event
  • Meeting new fans
  • Extended hours for the show floor for Saturday and Sunday
  • More exposure due to those extended hours
  • Amazing cosplayers (these people really got into their costumes and characters!)

Some negatives of the event:

  • On Halloween weekend, so the partial day on Friday was very quiet and not many people were there
  • The lay out of the convention, splitting up of artist alley on to two sides of the show floor
  • The noise from the main stage and announcements (Lower volume would be must appreciated!)

Overall, we had a great time at this event and look forward to next year!

If you have gotten your copy of issue 6, please let us know your thoughts! We would love to hear from you! Please post your comments here or on any of our social media outlets!

October 30,2014

October 20,2014

October 20,2014What a weekend we had! The online is finally up and running! We want to thank all of you for our patience while we were getting this part of the website up and running. For now, we have the comics up, you can get some of them signed as well if you wish! Over the next few months we will be adding more merchandise to the store such as t-shirts, sweatshirts and other memorabilia. So if you can not make it out to our shows and special events or if you just cannot wait to have the latest issues you can now order from our store and have it sent directly to you! Also this weekend, we have gotten several steps closer to the completion of issues 6! I got a look at the last few pages and WOW! is all I can say! We here, can not wait for everyone to read this issue!

October 14,2014

We are working away on getting issue 6 finished up as well as getting our online store up and running! We also have been receiving word that Comikaze is close to selling out this year, so if you were thinking of going you might want to get your tickets before they are all gone! You will not want to miss this convention!

Comikaze is a much larger comic book convention then some of the other ones around but it is not on the same scale as the San Diego Comic Con which is good as this con always you to spend time with the authors and artists more and not feel like you are rushed sort of like how the Long Beach Comic Con is. Although this con is a lot bigger then that one and does draw in more vendors and people because of that. We are highly looking forward to this convention and can not believe it is only 16 days away now! We will be entering into prep mood here shortly to make sure we are all set for it and of course for you the fans!

October 9,2014

What a week it has been! We have been working hard on finishing issue 6 ( Yes, its almost ready!!) and getting ready for our next comic con at the end of the month, Comikaze!! This next one will be taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles! Make sure to mark your calendars from Oct.31 to Nov. 2! We will be posting information about this event soon.

Work is also continuing on getting our online store set up and we are projecting to have it up with in the next two weeks. So if you are unavailable to come out to any of our events or can not make it to the closest comic book store to get the latest issue, you can just order it from us directly!

Make sure to check back regularly for more updates! Have a great rest of the week !

October 2,2014

As promised, here is a recap for this past weekends Long Beach Comic Con, right in time for throwback thursday! There was a constant stream of people coming to the booth both days, where we were able to meet with the fans and make new ones. We also got the chance to make new friends with the other comic con artists as well as reconnect with some of our friends that we have known since we started going to comic cons. The ashcan was very popular and was selling fast, but do not worry we have enough left for Comikaze at the end of this month! The cosplayers were very good this year at the con, it seems like every year the cosplayers get better and better! Some of them were very spot on to their characters and many people stayed in character while talking with others!

We are continuing to work on issue 6 and hopes are still that we have it ready very soon! We, again, want to thank everyone who came out to the show this past weekend and saw us as well as picked up the ashcan! We hope you enjoy it and we hope we will see you at Comikaze!

September 29,2014

The Birth of “The Stone Legacy” Part 4

The General is the villain that I created to welcome the protagonist, Jacob Stone, as well the reader to what they can expect from the world that I created.    I designed the General when I created Jacob.  He represents the immovable object against Jacob’s unstoppable force.  However, as is told in the first issue, the General’s treachery wasn’t limited to Jacob alone.  This villain has transcended both time and space in his own quest for destruction.  By the time that “Inheritance” ends, readers will see just how far he’s traveled.  The inspiration for the General was from a dark character that represented one of the “Four Horseman of the Apocalypse” in the television series “The Highlander” then evolved over time to what he is now.  His story was always meant to be told in layers so that the reader’s understanding of what is at stake isn’t completely told upfront.

The Birth of “The Stone Legacy” Part 3

Jacob Stone is a character that I worked hard to develop so that he could be different than typical comic book heroes.  Sure, it’s hard to totally escape character elements from a genre because there are things that readers come to expect.  I made sure to keep those expectations in mind as I modified them to my way of storytelling.  For example, I didn’t want to have yet another tale of a nerdy high school outsider that one-day gained super-powers and abs.  I wanted my super-hero to be super in some respects already.  I also didn’t want Jacob to get a handle on his abilities from the start.  I think adding a sense of realism to that aspect can give the comic a stronger backbone.  That’s why I introduced him as being smart and popular as well as a star athlete.  Giving Jacob super-powers will change the balance of his life.  Teen years are already hard enough without having to deal with saving the world every other day.  Jacob’s life will be affected by his new powers.  Just how far these effects will progress to will be part of his entire story.

The Birth of “The Stone Legacy” Part 2

The birth of “The Stone Legacy” occurred way back in nineteen-ninety seven in my late teens.  I had already been used to writing and even won a couple of awards.  It was around this time that Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” had hit the airwaves.  This was a big deal for me because I was exposed to a different style of storytelling than I was traditionally used to.  This struck a chord inside of me and stirred my imagination in new ways.   This is when I created Jacob Stone, though at that time I didn’t yet know his first name only his last which derived from the source of his power.  His abilities came from a mysterious stone that was embedded in his wrist and was connected to an equally mysterious object, the Pyramid.  I imagined that the stone along with the Pyramid would be passed down from father to son over an unspecified number of generations.  It was the beginning and the first step to creating my own universe.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted the comic book to establish the idea of strength in family.  The main hero is the Guardian or Jacob Stone but in the pages of the comic it doesn’t begin this way.  This is an insight into the title of the comic and reinforces the idea that it’s about more than one singular character.  I wanted the entire family to be important and part of the mystery of the comic is to discover why.  Looking back now, I’m glad I made this choice because I’ve come to have ideas on ways to expand the story into many more directions than when I originally created the characters.  I knew when I created Jacob that he would gain his powers from his father and I knew his father would die.  I gave Jacob a brother, Ethan, and made their mother a strong character that would help them to grow.  My own mother inspired her creation. It was at this point that I had solidified the foundation for the comic book.

The Birth of “The Stone Legacy” Part 1

As the release of the sixth issue of “The Stone Legacy” draws near, being the writer/creator of this comic series, there are many things that have begun to rise to the surface of my mind.  This issue is significant not just because it’s the conclusion of the first story arc but because it’s the full introduction to this world and to the characters that I created.  In essence, it’s the culmination of years of hard work and imagining of a story that has resided in my mind for a very long time.  It is a story that I have wanted to tell and share with the world for many years.  The release of this issue is a landmark event for the comic as well as my life.  It is this that takes me back to when it all began in my mind.  “The Stone Legacy,” as it is, did not come to be in one singular, significant moment.  Rather it was a series of moments that originated from a single idea.  I would like to look back in time a bit and share this idea and the subsequent moments that brought forth from my mind what this comic has become today as well as a small glimpse of where I see it going.

I have always been an imaginative person.  As a young boy, I would often be swept away by my own mental stargazing.  Many of these fantasies involved me being a super-hero of some kind, as many boys often do, that were heavily inspired by the heroes that I was exposed to both on the page and on screen.  It was this daydreaming that planted the seeds for the worlds that I would someday create.  One of these seeds would eventually grow to become my first printed comic book: “The Stone Legacy.”

Comic Book Convention season is upon us and we here at The Stone Legacy are working hard to complete not only issue 6 but also upgrade our show gear! New in the line up are exclusive banners, and something we are all excited about a light up pyramid which is the symbol of the comic series. Over the years, we have received many complements over our carved pumpkin that sits on our  table at the various conventions. Well, in sticking with the theme of this year in the office, which is a season of upgrades, we had a light up pyramid constructed to better display the comic book and bring the main symbol more into the focus. This new feature will also help you, the fans locate us at the conventions this fall! We look forward to seeing you in a few short weeks at the first convention of the season! Come check out our upgrades and say hi! See you then!

July 25,2014

Well, it is that time of year again where fans of television, movies and comics make the annual trip down to San Diego, CA for Comic Con. This year is promising to be bigger than last year’s convention. Here are some of the panels we recommend checking out:

Friday:

11:00 am Star Wars Storyboards: The Original Trilogy

4:00pm creating Comics with the iPad.

Saturday

3:00pm The Nerdist

5:00pm Comics 101: making sense of the world of Comics (This is a great panel for people who are new to this genre).

Of course there will also be vendor, new comic books and panels from some the hottest TV shows and movies. Make sure to plan out your time as there is a lot to see and this convention is very popular (which means lots of people!). This time we are not making the trip to the Con as we have several projects that are nearing completion (Yes, we are very sad). But we want to make sure these projects get completed on time for you, the fans, to enjoy. So plan, hydrate and enjoy your Con!

July 22,2014

It is vacation time here at The Stone Legacy offices but that does not mean we have shut down completely. You may have seen the Facebook and Twitter posts about issue six and how several more pages have been added to that issue. Well, here is why that took place.

Gavin was on vacation and he kept thinking back to a certain part of the storyline in the issue. So being the writer that he is, Gavin, on vacation, started to write additional material for issue six as well as sketch out where it would fit in with the current version of the issue. Upon his arrival back to the office, he quickly got the additions caught up with the rest of the process. He is now much happier with how the storyline is and he can not wait for everyone to read it!

We are still working on the last few pages getting color corrected but once that is complete we can send it over to the printers for a draft! We are getting closer to the release of the issue! Make sure to keep checking back for updates on issue 6!

July 7,2014

We hope everyone enjoyed the Q&A session last week with Gavin! We will be doing another one later in the year!

This week here at the stone legacy we have been working on issue 6 and finalizing everything for that issue. We are getting very close to sending it off to the printers! The creator has also been hard at work with his spin off series. He has been developing new characters and working on their characteristics and the roles that they will be playing with in the new series. Follow him as he works on this series on his twitter @thestonelegacy.

We are also starting to look forward to the fall line up of comic conventions! Keep an eye out for where we will be next! You can find that information in our Calendar section.

We are also getting ready to launch our online store, soon if you can not make it out to one of the comic conventions or you can not wait to get the next issue or some awesome merchandise you will not have to wait! Keep an eye out for the launch date!

This is a shorter blog post this week as we are starting to take some vacation time and enjoy some sun!

July 3,2014

Over the last week, we reach out on our various social media outlets and asked the fans if they had questions for Gavin, will they sure did! I sat down with the creator of the series and ask him some of the questions we received! Ready to find out what more about “The Stone Legacy” and if there will be any more issues after this story arch? Or what made Gavin start writing? The answers await!

Q: What are your inspirations?

A: My inspirations are: Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ series, Joss Whedon’s television shows, the writings of Kevin Smith and of course Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy and I won’t forget  Marvel Comics characters from Marv Wolfman. Wolfman is the biggest inspiration of them all though.

Q: What prompted you to start writing comics? Why Comics?

A:I’ve always loved comic books ever since I was around ten years old.  I decided to write my comic because I wanted to tell my own story although I’m not limiting it to the comic page. Different types of stories work well in different mediums. There will be ‘The Stone Legacy’ stories told in different ways and styles.

Q: What helps you to beat writers block?

A: For writers block I step away from the project and let it boil in the back of my head. I go and watch one of my inspiration movies or listen to movie soundtracks particularly Hans Zimmer. That usually gets me thinking about what I want to write subconsciously ,that usually breaks down the writers block and lets me continue writing.

Q: Why did you want to start another series? And what will be covered in the new series that is not being done in the stone legacy?

A: There is a large story to tell in ‘The Stone Legacy.’. The new series will tackle a different angle to my universe and tell different kinds of stories but in the end it will all be connected.  The new series will tell more mature themed stories that bring a different light to my universe. It will expand the vision of the ultimate story that will be told. ‘The Stone Legacy’ will tell stories as seen through the eyes of a teenager where equinox will be seen through the eyes of someone a bit older like 20’s or 30’s age range. Which, brings the idea of more mature subject matter in the stories.

Q: What are your hopes for both series?

A: My hopes for both series are to tell all the smaller story arcs that will lead up to the giant story that I aim to tell.

Q: What has been your toughest moment since starting the series?

A: Luckily, at this point I don’t think I’ve had  a ‘toughest moment’ I know the story that I want to tell and I usually know the ending of the story so I work on my path to it.

Q: What do you listen to or watch while you are working on an issue?

A: I mentioned Hans Zimmer before but specifically his soundtracks for Inception, Man of Steel, and Nolan’s Batman movies. I’m always looking for new music but with no vocals. Vocals usually crowds my mind with the story the singer is telling and that clashes with my imagination.  As far as watching something while I write, I usually don’t. It’s distracting and I might lose what I’m working on.

Q: Will there be any more Series To Stone Legacy ?

A: There will definitely be more issues and stories from ‘The Stone Legacy’. The first six issue story is only the beginning.

Thank you to everyone who sent in questions! If yours did not get answered, do not worry! We will be having another Q and A session with Gavin later in the year!

In the last post we talked about the printing process , now sadly it is time for the last post about the production of this comic book. This post we will be looking at the last quality control check that we do to insure everything is absolutely perfect before we send the issue out! We hope that you have learned a few things about what it takes to produce a comic, I know from shadowing the process that I have! It really is a fascinating thing to witness and see a concept come alive!

Once we have brought the copies of the issue back to the office, we all gather around and each of us get a group of 20 issues. We select 2 or 3 in this pile and check to make sure that everything is correct from the artwork, color and layout. We repeat this until we have spot-checked the batch that was printed. We do this to make sure that the issue is how the Creator saw the issue being told as well as to make sure that the issue is seamless and flow with the other issues. This is one of the most important steps in the process that we do. Once we have completed this then the issue is ready to head out to you guys the readers! We then head out to distribute the correct amount of issues to the various locations that sell our comic. (To those shops that do we thank you!). We also get 100 or more copies ready to travel with us to the next convention that we are going to.

As you can see, these last final steps are critical to the process. With out any of the steps we have been explaining over the last few weeks, we would not be able to produce this comic. We hope you have enjoyed this look into how we produce our comic book! Make sure to come back next week as we have a special post explaining how you can ask the creator Gavin your questions!

In the last post, we talked about the artist and the color correction process. If you did not get a chance to read that post or any of the other ones about how we produce this comic make sure to check them out below! In this post we will be talking about the printing process. Are you ready to find out more? Well let’s go!

So after color correction is complete and the comic is laid out in the correct order we send the manuscript to the printer. Our printer makes one copy of the issue, called a proof, then sends it to us to make sure that everything is how it is suppose to be (for this we are grateful as sometimes color or pages get mixed up). Once we have given the final ok, the printer takes the approved manuscript and starts to make the issue. A standard order for us roughly a print of 600 copies. Once we sell out of those then we will do a second print of the issue and so forth. Once they are finished being printed, we go and pick them up and bring them back to the office to do our last quality control check.

If you have never seen how something gets printed make sure to check out a video on it! It really is a very fascinating process in its own right. In the next blog post we will be finishing up our behind the scenes look into how we produce an issue of this comic book! Make sure to check back later in the week for that post!

Last post we were talking about the process to producing an issue of this comic book. We highlighted the writing and story boarding processes that are one of the first steps in the process to making an issue. If you missed that post, make sure to check it out below! As mentioned in the last post we will be doing several posts about what it takes to produce an issue of this comic book. This post will continue with that theme in covering the areas of Artwork and Color Correction. Lets get started!

Once the script has been finalized, it is then sent over to the artist with some instructions from Gavin about lay out for each page to be illustrated. Now our artist is not local, in fact he is on the other side of the world. He is from India. So this process takes even longer than normal due to the logistics of working with someone on a completely different time zone.   Most of the time, we let the artist create and draw freely; this tends to be the best thing to do with artists. Every few pages though, he will send over his rough sketches to make sure that we are happy with how things are coming to life. 9 times out of 10 we are. This goes on for several weeks as the artist works his way through the new story line and brings it to life. After the sketches or “pencils” (as it’s known) are approved, the artist inks the work leaving it in black and white. Here the dialogue or “letters” are double checked with the script. From there it is given to the colorist along with reference colors (if needed.).  Once approved the page is then sent to Raquelle for color correction.

When we receive the final art for our colorist, now comes time for the color correction. Raquellle, Production manager, is in charge of making sure that the colors that were used as the same as the ones that have been used for all the issue thus far and that the issue is ready to print. Raquelle does this, as digital and printed colors can look different even if it is the same color. Now some of you may be wondering if we really have specific colors for our comic book. Yes, we do. We do this to make sure that the look of the comic book does not change from issue to issue and it all is one nice flowing book in essences. Now this is a very tedious task and can take up to several weeks. Raquelle goes through each frame to insure that the colors are all correct. Once she has made sure the color from the colorist is correct and that the pages are laid out correctly, we then send it to the printer for a test print to make sure that they have the correct colors in order as well.

As you can see these next few steps are very tedious ones but also fun ones! The artist gets to do his thing and make the next adventures of Jacob Stone come to life. Raquel gets to make sure that everything is perfect before sending it off to get printed so when the next issue comes to you everything looks seamless. In the next blog post we will be talking about the printing process and the final quality checks! Make sure to come back next week for the next post!

Comic books, what does it take to make one of these thrilling short adventure stories? What does it take to keep a reader wanting more? Well in the next few blog entry I will break down what it takes us here at The Stone Legacy to produce an issue of our comic book. For some this is not new information but for others, like my self until a few years ago, this area of literature was a mystery to me and I always found it intriguing how someone could come up with adventures that left me wanting to continue reading. So for those that are like me and wanted to know what it takes to makes a comic book this entry is mostly for you. But for those who do know the process and want to know more about our comic then this is also for you as a behind the scene look at how we produce this comic.

I have been shadowing the creator of the comic and the artist to see how they work together to make an issue of this comic. First, it starts off with the writing and what the next step or adventure for the main characters will be. This is what mostly takes the longest to accomplish, writing is now small task, Gavin explains, “When writing, there are days where the material just comes pouring out of me and I know exactly what is going to be happening. These are the good days and I can write for hours when this happens. But there are other days where writers block comes into play and I could be staring at the blank page for hours. To get around the writers block there are several things that I do that help me, listening to music re-watching some of my favorite TV shows to get inspiration or simply just walking away from it for a few days.”

Next, is storyboarding. This is something that is mostly done with films but here we fine it useful to make sure the story is flowing from one issue to the next. There is a big board in the office that contains rough ideas for the next issue. Gavin spends several days after finishing writing the next issue making sure that the new issue flows nicely with the previous one and the story line makes sense. This a critical part in the process for us, we all look it over to make sure that everything compliments each other. For Gavin, when he is writing he gets lost in the story and some times jumps ahead of him self to something that has not taken place yet, in this step we make sure that those ideas are not thrown without being properly set up for it.

In the next entry, we will continue to explain the process that we go through to produce this comic. Topics being covered will be the following: sending the transcripts to the artist for artwork and color correcting. Hope everyone enjoyed this first behind the scenes entry! Make sure to come back soon for the next entry, which will be up next week!

This week was a recovery week for us here at The Stone Legacy. We all needed a few days to recover from the fun weekend at The Long Beach Comic Expo last weekend! Gavin, the creator of this series, has not been able to stop talking about meeting his life long inspiration, Marv Wolfman. Mr. Wolfman gave Gavin some great advice, he said “Don’t give up, this is a hard industry but don’t give up, it will be worth it”. This advice is good not only for this industry but life in general as it is a tough world out there and things do not always go your way. If you have a goal or dream then go for it! Do not give up when things seem to be getting harder instead of easier, in the end it will all be worth it!

Switching gears, we are continuing work on issue six, it has taken more time then usual to complete this issue. This is due to the size of the comic as well as making sure that this story arc is done justice. It is very important to everyone here that we end this story arch correctly and set the stage up properly for the next adventure of Jacob Stone.  Make sure to check back here often as we will be posting about the statues of issue six as it gets closer to hitting the shelves!

Make sure to check out the calendar section as we are working on setting up more events for the summer. One of them being a meet n greet event with Gavin! Once we have all the details confirmed we will make an official announcement!

We hope everyone is having a great week! Check back often for more Stone Legacy News!

This weekend we attended The Long Beach Comic Expo! This was the fifth time that we have been at this event, you could say we are regulars here!  We met a lot of new fans as well as some who have been with us from the beginning. The thing about this event that makes it a blast to attend is everyone is friendly, the crowds are manageable and there is not a sense of needing to rush to be able to see and talk to everyone. This event really allows the fans and the artists to be able to talk about the comics and really connect.  We also had a lot of fun hanging out with the other exhibitors around the venue and having a few laughs! Gavin, the creator of this comic, was very excited to meet his life long inspiration,Marv Wolfman, who was in attendance this weekend, the two were able to talk for a few minutes and take some photos together, check them out in our photo gallery!

The costumes and the cosplayers that came out were really impressive! Make sure to check out our events sections for photos from the event, who knows we might have one of you! We are always impressed with the creativity of the people that come out to these types of events! Plus is its always awesome to get your picture taken with your favorite character!

We were fortunate to have taken part in two interviews from some very talented reporters! Keep an eye out for the links to those once they become available. We will post links here on the site as well as on our Facebook page for you to enjoy!

Thank you to everyone that came out and made this event a blast once again! We look forward to the next comic expo!
