In 2005 the rights to Valiant Comics and all of its characters were purchased by a pair of entrepreneurs who wanted to see their favorite comics live again. Among them was my favorite of the bunch: Bloodshot. Bloodshot returned in the summer of 2012 or rather it was rebooted (to use a popular term going around these days) and I was ecstatic. With this came a new first issue, a new beginning and a chance to be reintroduced to one of my favorite childhood comic books. The title was now penned by a veteran of both Marvel and DC veteran Duane Swierczynski. I couldn’t wait to open up the first issue. I very much felt like a kid again. The first issue starts out with a bang and one heck of a twist. In fact from what the comic was before, Swierczynski has taken it to a whole new level. The hero, Ray, isn’t who he thought he was and those he thought were his allies aren’t. It turns out that he is a government owned high-tech killing machine. It’s a modern telling of the comic I enjoyed so long ago. Bloodshot has a bit of what I love about The Bourn Identity movies with the sci-fi twist of Total Recall. Also, it’s refreshing to read new stories with all new characters. This comic inspired me as a kid and I’m eager to see what kind of inspiration lies ahead for me when I delve deeper into the world of Bloodshot.
