Comic Book Review: BloodShot

There is a comic book that I’ve had a fascination with for a long time. I can remember walking in the comic store and seeing the cover of the first issue and the look of that special “chromium cover.” I had recently discovered then that a new comic book company was creating original stories and this new title was included. What I’m talking about is Bloodshot and the company that published it called Valiant Comics. The comic was created and written by the talented Kevin Vanhook who at that time was new to the comic game but that didn’t mean that he was lacking anything because with this comic book he was hitting the ground running. The character Bloodshot was a former soldier that was given fantastic abilities by a top secret group called Project Rising Spirit. In his blood were injected small robotic nano computers that allow Bloodshot to heal from various types of injuries as well as connect to technology by simply touching it. He doesn’t remember who he is and part of the story is figuring that out. The first issue has Bloodshot in London searching for answers about his past but isn’t quite as easy as he thinks it will be. This comic is action at its finest. I enjoyed it simply because it was something new and different and not from the “Big Two.” Of course I thought the story was creative and inspiring. I couldn’t wait to get to the next issue. That’s why I was sad to see Valiant Comics disappear taking Bloodshot and number of other fantastic titles with it. After that, the beautiful chromium cover and the rest of the issues would end up in my back issue bin never to see the light of day save for a brief moment of childhood nostalgia. That’s what I thought, but that changed…
