Comic Book Review: Legends of Log

Log

Gavin here, I decided that it would be fun to be able to review comic books for our site. Not just any comics and not every single title that is released every week. This is something different. I’m going to focus on comic book storylines of the present and past that have inspired me in one way or another then give my own slant on it. I will also review comic books that most people have never heard of. That’s because they’ll be comics that for the most part you can only find if you walk down the aisles of an “Artist Alley” at a comic book convention. I hope you like it; I know I’ll have fun doing it.

I’m going to start with a title that I discovered a little over a year ago at a convention. I’m going to tell you about an independent comic called “Legends of Log,” by writer/creator D.L. Suharski. The first thing that I noticed about this comic book was the artwork that illustrates the awesomely menacing looking hero known as “Log.” The image I saw was of this hero fighting a giant serpent. I was immediately intrigued so I took a closer look at this comic and what I discovered fascinated me. Log wields an axe that he uses to fight off evil while defending the Forest of the North Woods. He even has his own catchphrase: TIMBER!

More than just the artwork and the character, I was immediately pulled in by the interior design of the comic. It intentionally looks like an old-aged comic from decades ago. It has the slightly faded pages that display the black and off-white artwork that gives it a cool retro style feel. I liked it so much that I picked up the first three issues and recently was able to get the first annual comic.

The story itself is a blend of fantasy and adventure with magic and monsters. I also enjoy the fact that readers can enjoy different adventures in one book. At the end of the comic there are prose written adventures starring the main hero. That doesn’t even include the mini prose books that have been put out and I have yet to get my hands on. The comic book has a different feel than most other comic books and that’s why I think I like it. I think I’ll be following Log’s adventures to see where they take him. You didn’t think that I was going to tell you the entire story and spoil the fun did you? I recommend checking out this comic if you’re interested in something off the beaten path yet adventurous.
