Cosplayers at Comic Book Conventions

One of the most fun and entertaining things about going to a convention is the cosplayers!

There are all sort of them that come out! It is very interesting to see the detail and the time spent on the costumes. We see a variety of cosplayers and they change depending on what type of convention we are at. Recently, we were at Comikaze in Downtown Los Angeles. Now this convention is run by Stan Lee who is now apart of Disney so we saw a lot more Disney influences there. On Saturday of the convention we counted 150 Starlords from Guardians of the Galaxy, there was a lot of of Elsa’s from Frozen both adult versions and kids versions.  Many of the cosplayers went all out and recreated the costumes perfectly. We spoke with some of them and asked how long it took them to make their pieces, the average answer was between 30 plus hours. It was well worth it as the pieces were amazing!

At most of the conventions we go to, there are Star Wars cosplayers and these people are always fun to interact with. Their costumes are to the exact specifications of what they were in the movies and comics. For the Mandalorian group, they take new members into their club and many of them help each other in building their costume pieces as those are very time consuming projects. But they are well worth it! We have made friends with many of them and enjoy seeing them at the conventions.

Now we get asked a lot if the cosplayers like getting their pictures take and if it is ok to approach them. Of Course!! But please ask politely! The reason people dress up like this is they want to not only be like the character ( which many of them take on that characters personality while in costume) , but they like being in pictures. So yes ask and most of the time they will be more then happy to take a picture with you!

Unforutnitly though with the increase in popularity in the conventions some cosplayers have been getting treated badly. Please remember that these are actual humans and they like being treated with respect as does everyone else. Be polite, courtisous, and respectful and you will have a great time interacting with the various cosplayers at the conventions.

Check out our Events page as we post pictures of cosplayers and other photos from the conventions we attend!
