Comic Book Review: Omega 1

Omega1

When I first started creating The Stone Legacy, I knew that I was going to be doing something that many others do. I knew that I had to stand out from the rest of the pack so that the masterpiece that is my comic book could be seen in a crowd. When I started to make my presence known on the show circuit, I looked around at other properties that I could emulate. I wanted to find other indie creators whose comic stood out and take a page from their book and make it my own style. One of those books that I looked up to (and still do) had a presentation that was phenomenal and a story that was equally as such. That comic book is Omega 1 and that creators are Mark Edward Lewis and Alina Andrei. Lewis is a director/composer and Andrei an actress/stuntwoman/martial artist/sword master. (She’s talented!)
The inception of Omega 1 is interesting because it originated as a television screenplay and evolved into this comic book/motion comic where Alina Andrei is the comic book model for the main character “Meg Vasile” (AKA Omega One). Andrei is also the voice actress for the motion comic. At the comic shows as Lewis is explaining the book to everyone (I of course asked him questions of how he created “all of this.”), Andrei becomes Omega One complete with costume and weapons. This definitely stood out to me so, of course, I bought the first issue complete with motion comic DVD.
So now we get to the “meat and potatoes.” What is Omega 1 and what’s the story? Omega 1 is set in the future and takes place after a great war caused by cyber terrorists. These terrorists have accessed all digital information leaving nothing secret anymore. Now vital information is sent with couriers that keep information on them within neural implants. These couriers also possess the abilities to defend the information they are transporting from location to location. “Alpha Courier Alliance” is one of the most popular companies and with it is Omega One. Her past is a mystery to her and in the first issue it comes back to haunt her as a contract has been placed on her head. She takes part in an action packed adventure that leads her to the truth about her past.
I really like the comic and I really like the overall presentation of it with the motion comic and the real life feel that Andrei brings to it all. The website also includes “extras” that enhance the comic’s story. The comic book has a larger than life presence and I’ve only read the first issue. I can’t wait to see where the story goes.
The inspiration this comic gives me is not so much with the writing but with how much the creator’s “own” the comic and bring it to life. It’s a direction that I aspire to go in
with my own creations. It’s the kind of energy that I try to put into The Stone Legacy.
