Comic Book Review: Star Wars Lando #1

With the ending of the Princess Leia mini-series line, we now get the Lando line. Yes, in the films he is a sub-character but his story is important and many people like his antics. This first issue is full of information about Lando and how he gets the reputation that follows him through out the Star Wars franchise. Below are my thoughts on this new mini-series.

Let’s start with the cover, it has paler colors not vibrant like the other Star Wars comics that have come out so far, we have someone standing behind a curtain with a blaster gun, this sets the tone right from the start. That tone would be seedy and one that spells trouble. Upon opening up the comic and beginning to read, you find out who that person is behind the curtain with the blaster and why they need that blaster.   Which upon finding out that piece of information sets the rest of the issues plot line up.

Now the story that is told in this first issue is one that sets up Lando and what I am hoping will happen is show us his connections to Han Solo. Just like Solo, Lando is out to clear some debts and make a better name for himself. Lando is a “scandrel” as well and will take on a job in order to not get killed by his enemies. Now there are other similarities between the two characters but I will leave you to draw those up for yourselves.

This first issue is full of adventure and at the end a very interesting plot twist. Now, since this is a mini-series there is a lot going on in a very short amount of page space. This lead me to read the issue very quickly in order to find out what was going to happen, this is suspense was nice though. I have since gone back and re-read this issue several times and the suspense is still there, the writing is just that good in this issue.

The art throughout the comic is similar to that of the front cover. The paler, darker tones are throughout the issue, which help with the plot line that is being told. Just like the other mini-series, we are getting to see and learn more about the characters of the films, which I like. Very excited to see where this mini – series goes!
